GSS has recently completed its first CSW testing in Switzerland for Swiss consulting firm AB Ingénieurs SA. Located approximately 10km north of Geneva in the town of Versoix, the site lies on the Western shore of Lake Geneva where superficial sand and gravel deposits can extend to great depth. A number of dynamic probe holes had already been undertaken across the site but the presence of cobbles in the ground can make the results of such penetration testing hard to interpret. As the CSW technique measures the bulk ground stiffness it is unaffected by small scale variations such as those provided by cobbles and therefore provides a much better basis for evaluating settlements of typical foundations.
